Tips for New Teachers

This is my first year of teaching so I have a lot of feedback on this! I wish I had really understood how challenging this first year would be. I wish I had known how much I would worry about lesson plans and writing assessments that reflect our learning goals. I also wish I would have known how much help was available to me from my colleagues, and asked for it sooner.

1) BREATHE. A lot. You need a lot of patience for yourself and your students as you all learn what kind of classroom environment is going to work best for your and your learners.

2) ORGANIZE. Everything. There is so much to do the first year, if you let it get out of control you will add so much stress to your life trying to play catch up.

3) REST. You are going to need a lot more sleep than you think. There is a lot of mental and emotional effort involved in being an effective teacher.

  1. I like your thoughts and I agree with you, It is very hard for a first year teacher, specially the first 4 months of school.
